  • Windows XP Change taskbar color and get toolbar thing on desktop back up?

When i first got my Dell Inspiron 1525 Windows XP it had this thick toolbar on the desktop and i could change the color of the bar where it says what internet page i was on and all that customizing crap. I didn't really have a need for it and i thought it ate up my battery too much so i went to default on everything but i miss it and the stupid little knick knacks and color preferences so how do i get it back up?

I right clicked desktop and clicked personalize but it was just a bunch of useless stuff preferences that i'm not messing with for the sake of my computer. So, how to get that stuff back up, help please? it's extremely aggravating especially because you'd think dell.com or windows xp would make it easy to figure out how to do it with checking online. gr.Windows XP Change taskbar color and get toolbar thing on desktop back up?
Right click on the desk top and pick settings on the far right, your color scheme is there, the taskbar, you should be able to hover on the edge of it and see your mouse pointer turn to a little black arrow click and hold the left button to move it up or down... • PC XP change -- help?

I have a PC with real XP and the better one without , how can i change the better one using other PCs XP Product Key and VLK (i know i need to uninstall XP on the other one) ?PC XP change -- help?
If you mean a better PC without Windows, then no ';home user'; should be using XP with a VLK (Volume License Key), it's for Corporate use only.

PC manufacturer's use OEM versions for pre-installing an OS. OEM versions of Windows are locked to that computer's hardware.

';i know i need to uninstall XP on the other one.';. Not true, if XP came pre-installed on the older PC it is very likely NOT transferable, period.

Bottom line: If you want Windows on a new PC, BUY it, or try Windows 7 RC, it'a free and includes an Activation Code good until mid-2010.

    Recovering XP password?

    Hi everybody;

Somehow I have changed XP password. Also administrator password changed. I got no idea how i have done this but i could not enter my laptop, with safe mode or command prompt, always password password and password.

So is there a chance to bypass this screen? For instance, if i can open command prompot without password protect, i can use net stat *

Or sth else. There are lots of ways, but all depends on doing change when logged to XP.

    ThanksRecovering XP password?

I have problem with dual booting XP & Vista ?

I have a samsung 120 GB PATA IDE hard disk. I had XP Pro (NTFS) installed in my first primary partition, Suse Linux 10.2 installed in my second primary partition, which I replaced with Win Vista Ultimate (NTFS) . After installing it The Vista became active but there was no option to boot into XP. So I changed XP partition to active (which I use most) and changed the ';boot.ini'; to bring dual booting option.

    I have following entries in ';boot.ini';

    [boot loader]

    timeout=30

    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partiti?br>
    [operating systems]

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WI?Windows XP Professional'; /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(6)\WI?Windows Vista'; /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Now it loads XP without any problem, but when I try to load Vista it says that hall.dll file is missing or corrupted. There is no way to replace that file, how can I change ';boot.ini'; of XP so that it can also load Vista without any problem.I have problem with dual booting XP %26amp; Vista ?
Vista has to be your Primary partition--It can't be your secondary partition. When you install Vista it will overwrite the Win XP boot.ini file and install Vista own boot manager. If install correctly, when you boot your PC, the manager will ask which OS you want to boot into. And for that to work you have to install Win XP first and then Vista, so that Vista will use its boot manager for both WinXP and Vista. WinXP doesn't have a boot manager that can recognize Vista.

EDIT: Yes, Vista has to be install as the primary partition (Active) and to use WinXp as your main OS, you have to change the setting in Vista. Go here : http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-v

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vI have problem with dual booting XP %26amp; Vista ?
Unfortunately it wont be in the boot.ini that will change the missing dll file. i would try to boot from the vista cd and do a repair if your able to. Otherwise you might have to format that partition and just reinstall it. The boot.ini has nothing to do with a corrupt OS. Have you tried the version of Vista before? Make sure you have a clean partition and reinstall. I would not even try to edit the .ini file. It should do everything automatically.

Well i have windows xp pro, and i dislike it, i have no cds, or anything, jus a laptop with an internet, and all i want to do is change it from windows xp pro to the windows xp home edition. Does anyone, know how to change it, in full directions, or where i can find directions to change it, pls, i need help. Thank You!Change windows xp pro, to windows xp home edition?
you need to have the xp home edition cd

but i don't understand why you would want to change

why would you throw away a 100$ bill in exchange for a 10$ bill.Change windows xp pro, to windows xp home edition?
Yes. Simply purchase the XP Home media and Licence. Boot from the media.

Remember that XP Home is just like XP Pro, but without all the features.

If you want a complete change from Windows, try Ubuntu - its free!

    http://www.ubuntu.com/
Why would you want to? Pro has everything that Home has, and more. You would have to completely format and install the operation system. I strongly suggest that you keep Pro, though.
If you have Pro version it is also contain all of the features that Home version has.

There is no way to change unless you install the simple Home version.
pro is the upgrade from home.if you wan to change, just buy a xphome cd and install it.its that simple.

How do I change Windows XP to vista?

    DON'T.

There's your answer right there. How do I change Windows XP to vista?
Why would you want to go from a good OS to a terrible one? If you must upgrade, go with Win7...How do I change Windows XP to vista?
do you have a disc with Windows Vista on it? if you dont: get one

if you do: whilst running xp, insert the vista disc and select the upgrade or install button
    1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.

    2. Press a key when you are prompted.

    3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.

    4. Click Repair your computer.

    5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.

    6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.

    7. Type Bootrec.exe /FixMbr, and then press ENTER.

That's it. Now when you reboot your PC, Vista will load automatically...
    dont! Windows Vista sux..
Don't do that! Haven't you heard? Vista is plagued with problems. If you are having problems with XP maybe its time to reinstall it.
DONT DO THAT , vista is hopeless if you must , upgrade to vista for free and then to Windows 7 or just do a clean install off Windows 7 , DONT GO TO VISTA
    For free, you don't.

There's downloadable themes that will make it LOOK like vista, for free.

I believe there are upgrade disks out there, not sure. if not, you will need to delete your entire hard drive, and install vista from a disk, which would be turning on your computer in xp, putting the disk in your commuter, shutting down, and starting it with the disk in. Then follow the steps, its not hard.

Vista is a nice OS once you get the service packs in. People that are anit-vista generally hopped on the band wagon of people that don't know what a service pack is, and/or are using a sucky machine, or are too lazy to relearn where stuff is. the thought of My documents being under the folder ';user'; instead of ';documents and settings'; scares them.

I do recommend 7 unless you have the vista disk already. skipping vista and going to windows 7 si a good choice, I've run 7 for a while, it is more efficient than xp and vista. I have 7 currently on a system with 512 mb of ram and penile 4 processor, cruddy graphics card. Vista won't touch it, xp laggs in it, 7 is happy.

Ive got the software 4 The Last XPIve bought a Toshiba laptop w/Vista but I dont like it,can somebody explain 2me how to change 2 XP?
    yes you can

    Three things to note:

1.) You'll have to purchase a copy of XP yourself.

2.) Be sure to burn the manufacturer's system recovery DVDs before installing XP so that you can reinstall Vista down the road.

3.) Be sure to install XP before setting up the computer as any files and settings will be lost in the installation process.

You can click here for a step-by-step guide.

http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winxphome/installxpcdoldhdd/index.htmIve bought a Toshiba laptop w/Vista but I dont like it,can somebody explain 2me how to change 2 XP?
You can go into the control panel and change the appearance to look like XP. however, if you dont like Vista itself, not just the look, then I am afraid it will cost you to downgrade. I would recommend geting used to Vista first if you dont know how to use it properly yet. If its just the look you don't like then that's fine but I would never downgrade as vista can be better if you get used to it.

    4. Regedit should load. Browse to this registry key:

    HKEY LOCAL MACHINE

    5. In the right panel, double click RegisteredOwner

    6. In the value data field, change the name to whatever you wish

    7. Click OK

Then left click on the plus sign next to MICROSOFT

Then left click on the plus sign next to WINDOWS NT

Double left click on the REGISTERED OWNER then you will have a small window pop up and you can change the ';VALUE DATA'; there, then click OK and close the rest out.

Don't mess around too much with the registry, because it could and can cause your system to crash

PS: Read-Only folders can be deleted same as any other folder. You simply can not add to it. However, if it is saying you can not, you don't have sufficient access to do so. In short, you are not the SysAdmin, or not running an Admin account.

Dude you can find this out on the internet easily. No offense but pointless writing it in yahoo answers but fair enough I'll answer your question anyway, just uninstall it, I think you possibly do this in add/remove programs in control panel and then buy XP or install it with an XP disk and so on, it depends I mean I've never used vista so I wouldn't know.
Dont worry they are making windows 7, that should be better than vista. They are releasing windows 7 this year in late october.

How do I change my XP language back form Irish to English?

Please help ASAPHow do I change my XP language back form Irish to English?
I don't have XP but maybe one version doesn't differ much from another. This is what I do on mine to add/remove languages:

From ';Start';, go to Settings, then Control Panel, then Keyboard. In the Keyboard window, there should be a tab called ';Input Locales'; or ';Languages.'; Click on that and you can see where to add or remove a language. Once you have added a language other than English, a small ';language'; icon appears at the bottom on your system tray. From then on, whenever you want to switch from one language to another, you can toggle back and forth by right-clicking this icon and choosing the language you want.

Hopefully some of this will be of help. Sorry I don't have XP to tell you for sure.

Vista Transformation Pack is a shell pack that changes the appearance of XP including the bootscreen, however I don't recommend using it, as it messes with the registry, and you run the risk of entering 'dll hell' and needing to carry out a fresh installation of XP. I know it happened to me.

Do you have the XP CD?

If you do, then go to this web site. It will teach you step by step how to install XP.

By the way, The type of internet connection has nothing to registering with Microsoft.

If your XP is the pro edition, then you have the option to register or not.

If it's the Home edition, then you have to register.

In this case, just leave the registration until you have completed the installation of XP and setting up all your drivers.

if u have the disk then just insert it...... but if your new computer was used, u need to buy the upgrade CD
In windows XP there is a file transfer wizard that you can use to transfer all the files on there to your new PC, just follow the directions on there :D, also as long as your using the same internet connection as before you dont have to register with microfsoft :D

windows blind lets you change your icon from xp to vista.
You probably shouldn't have downloaded icons. Just Google Vista look-alike. Usually takes at least 1GB of RAM to run, and there should be instructions on the site that you got it from. If not, there is usually a user friendly setup.

    Hope I helped!
I am not sure if I got your question right, but I think you want a vista look ore? If yes don't bother changing every single Icon. Just install the vista Transformation Pack and your pc will have the most of Vistas Features %26amp; the Icons.

How do I change Win XP Pro so I can use it entirely in Japanese (or any other language)?

What I mean is seeing Japanese characters in menu bars, icon names and Start menu items etc.

I am a native English speaker teaching myself Japanese. I want to use my computer in Japanese as I believe it will help me learn to read Japanese (it might help, I won't know until I try).

I have tried using the Language Bar and following other instructions on the Internet, including the Microsoft website, but haven't had much success. Is there some kind of program I need to have to enable Windows to do this perhaps? How do I change Win XP Pro so I can use it entirely in Japanese (or any other language)?
It is not possible. You have to buy the so called ';localized'; version of the OS where you have everything in the language of your choice. This is not only a matter of translating the words from one language to the other but of integrating them into the software. This is why Microsoft sells them as different products. As for installing such an OS on a computer which is ';native'; for the English version, I think you will run into much bigger problems than the understanding of the language (e.g. keyboard, DVD compatibility). Also the phrasing might be quite peculiar. I have done it for WinXP both in German and in French and, even though I speak perfectly both languages, I found it quite tiresome to work with. I understand your desire to be in a Japanese environment to push you to learn more but I think this is not the right way. You should go to Japanese sites (news, TV etc) and try to ';swim'; around.

i dont think you can do that
Go Google and search for Vista Transformation Pack 6 and download it.

Why not just upgrade to Vista? If you buy all the stuff you would need to make it look like Vista, you would spend more money.

Since Vista is such a total fizzle, stay with WinXP
It might be possible if someone creates a Vista theme for XP users to use for a windows theme. This program looks interesting and they offer a free trial. It is called Window Blinds

My windows XP refresh rate is set high and the new monitor I plugged in doesn't support it, so I can't get into winXP and change it to something lower. It works under safe mode because it chooses the monitor's default refresh rate. How can I change it in normal Windows if I can't even see anything? This seems ridiculous to me...How to change Windows XP monitor refresh rate outside of Windows?
This has happend to me tons of time, what I do is to memorize keybord keys in order to lower resolution because is easier than changing screen refresh rate.

    What I usually do is:

    1. Restart in safe mode

    2. Write down the keyboard keys to lower resolution once there. ie.

    a) Win + D %26lt;- To clean anything on the screen which could steal my right click

    b) Right click on desktop %26lt;- A menu appears

    c) Up arrow key pressed then enter %26lt;- As the fist item is selected up key will lead you to the last one, the properties option

    d) Shitf + TAB %26lt;- It'll select the first tab

    e) Right arrow click 4 times %26lt;- Will select Settings

    f) TAB pressed 3 times %26lt;- Resolution scroll will be selected

    g) Left arrow pressed down till you get tired.

The last step will lower your screen resolution, then just press enter and done.

Very dissapointing but works. Keyboard doesn't need an exact clicking point.

The monitor speakers must be connetec to the computer first. Then you can connect your headphones.

The Old Computer GuyHow to change headphone socket on Windows XP?
Your saying that the monitor doesn't have speakers unless they are built in.

Well if your monitor hasn't got any speakers in the first place then you can't

plug your headphones in because there would be no circuitry there.

You might have a socket where the jack goes into but it wont be connected

to anything. It will just be a standard fitting in the frame to fill the hole.

Changing the settings on the computer wont make any difference.

Everyone who left a comment I agree with so yeah. How do i change windows xp proffesional?
You need a Windows Home disk to change it to something else.

You will need to get to the hidden admin account, but I am sure you don't have the password to that either. You should just wipe it clean and start anew.
uh. windows xp pro and windows xp home are virtually the same operating system, but they are two operating systems, you can't just flip a switch between them.

I dont know how you managed to switch the only user account to a limited one, but you might be able to create a new account, or switch to the Administrator account (it might be hidden). if not, you can boot into safe mode and make a new account there.
You'd have to have a set of Windows disks and then you'd have to reformat the hard drive and install a lesser version of xp in order to downgrade. Xp pro is the top of the xp line and it won't let you downgrade using a disk.
There is no significant difference between Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home editions.

You could try to start the computer in safe mode (tap F8 repeatedly as soon as you switch it on - once every second)

You should be able to see an account called administratorand if it has no password set you will be able to get in there and use the user accounts option in control panel to change the password on the other account.

If you have actually have changed the administrator account to a limited account then you will probably have to reinstall windows.
stay with XP pro more features, othewise buy a new version of XP home? $239 AU, if you have disc do a repair on OS and then you can recreate admin account, or remove cmos battery for 10 minitues and replave restart pc and see if that does it? depending on you knowledge of computers, obseve antistatic proceedures, if removing cmos battery an turn off ac power.

Does anyone know how to change WIndows XP Windows Update to Windows Vista Windows Update?

You are talking about two completely different operating systems. If you have Windows XP then you cannot update to Windows Vista. To get Vista you either need to download it from the official Microsoft website or purchase the installation disc. And to install it correctly you will need a licence key which will be unique for your installation. And no, you cannot download it for free. If you want a proper, fully-functional version of Vista you are going to have to pay for it.Does anyone know how to change WIndows XP Windows Update to Windows Vista Windows Update?

If you can use Windows, you can use Ubuntu. VERY user friendly! How good is Linux - Ubuntu should i change from XP?
Linux is something that takes a while to learn.

I think that Ubuntu is the best one for first timer's. There are alot of things that are different though, like the filesystem and file extensions.

Some Windows programs have Linux versions but are usually a little different.

I say stay with XP if you can.
thats not a very nice thing to say about my mother.
It really all depends on how much work you are willing to do. If you are lazy (such as myself most of the time...) and aren't willing to do a little digging, no, stick to XP. Buf if you are willing to take the step, linux is a great operating system. Ubuntu is linux distrobution, meaning, it runs off the linux core. Mandriva, red hat, kubuntu - these are all distributions of linux. I personally use ubuntu and find it to be perfect for what I need it to do. There are ways to get it to run windows programs, but they are complicated and usually don't work well. If you use ubuntu, you are provided with a lot of free software and the ability to download much more for free. (I am unable to testify for other OS's because ubuntu is all I have used)
Ubuntu is a distribution of Linux.

There are many Linux Distributions, such as Ubuntu (I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 right now), Mandriva, Back|Track, Gentoo, Slackware, Fedora, Red Hat, Yellow Dog, etc etc.

I'd say it's best to start out with Ubuntu.

It's not easy switching OS, Linux is based on Unix, and it uses command lines that you won't see in Windows. Of course, with these command lines the user has more power and flexibility over their computer. Such as downloading need applications quickly (sudo apt-get install pie)

(sudo is like running in administrator, apt-get is the package manager command, install is obvious, pie would be any application that can be found in the Ubuntu repository).

These commands are entered in a shell or terminal (similar to a command prompt). No, it's not all command lines (except in Slackware), there's graphical interfaces just like Windows, even more powerful than Windows in some cases (the 3D desktop cube for Linux is one of my favorites). You can download the Ubuntu Live CD and run it without installing it, then if you like it, you can install it after (you won't get the full power of Linux until you install it, of course).

The benefits that I have experienced after switching from 7 years of Windows to Linux would be: Faster Internet speeds, more stability, no BSOD, no viruses (because nobody really makes Linux viruses), and much more.

To run windows applications, I used Wine and Crossover, sort of like Windows Emulators to run applications that require Windows.

Ubuntu is very easy to use, after a few days of using it for the first time, I adjusted pretty well and was able to become comfortable with command lines, the interface, and found a lot of new useful applications to aid me in programming and design.

Every computer and HDD in my house has a partition with Linux on it.

Every computer and HDD in my house has a partition with Linux on it.

yes, im running it and i love it

How do I change operating systems? Vista to XP?

I have Vista on my laptop and would like to change to XP. Vista came installed on the computer. I already have a copy of XP. How would I go about switching over? How do I change operating systems? Vista to XP?
The first thing you need to do is back up all your files to DVD's or an external hard drive. Then just place the XP disk in the CD drive %26amp; follow the instructions. But you need to know, your computer was built for Vista so you will have to manually hunt down all the drivers for all the hard ware... And some of your hard ware might not work rite with XP as the system OS...

Good Luck!!How do I change operating systems? Vista to XP?
First: Put your Xp cd in.

    2. Boot down the computer

    3. Reboot the computer, but before you get the windows logo, press and hold F8 (or the key that goes into bios)

    4. Find the boot order, and set your CD drive to priority level 1

    5. Boot from the cd (this means just returning to the boot screen)

    6. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up windows.

    7. Your done!
It's very easy, first, format the disk which your vista was installed on, and then install XP on it . Second, install the driver of XP operate system, you could download the driver from the laptop website.
Put the XP cd in, and choose to boot to the cd, It should lead you through it. Choose to format the drive using the NTFS system and choose the partion it highlights. You will also have to have the number key to complete the install, when it gets to that point. Hope this helps.
I did this and lost some functionality on my laptop after this. I cannot hear voices when I play dvd's, and my wireless internet is slower. Just make sure that you are okay with this before you install XP. My Dell laptop came with Windows Vista Home Premium. I then did a clean install of XP over Vista. I can't believe that Dell still advertises Vista with all its computers. However, I've heard that they now let you choose to get XP with it if you want.
seriously you want to go back to xp wow that was the whole point of buying my new pc i was getting sick and tired of the whole mess of xp well good luck when the people up in Redmond decide to pull the plug on xp like they have on win 95 and win 98 and win 98se and win me

Can I just change my windows XP to Windows7 directly by just installing directly the Windows7 CD? How?

Hi guys, I want to format my harddisk because of viruses, now I wonder if i can uninstall/cancel windows XP after formatting it...? Windows 7. Insert your Windows 7 installation disc into your computers CD/DVD drive and follow the onscreen directions. Now select ';Custom Installation'; this option is what allows you to perform a clean installation. And format the hard drive

    4. Now it is time to installation your application and transfer your files that we saved using Windows Easy Transfer.

That is all you need to do to perform a clean Windows 7 installation. Can I just change my windows XP to Windows7 directly by just installing directly the Windows7 CD? How?
Just format it and install Windows 7 after it, you don't need to ';uninstall XP';, you can even install on top of it.

Just make sure your hardware is compatible with 7

How can I change Windows XP Home main language?

I'm not talking about the keyboard language. I've bought a laptop that has Windows XP Home in german and I want to change it to english. How can I change Windows XP Home main language?
If you have the German version of XP on your laptop, you're stuck with German. You will need to format it and install an English version of XP.How can I change Windows XP Home main language?
Can't you just do Start%26gt;%26gt;Control Panel%26gt;%26gt;Regional and Language Options and change it there?
Well, this is another example of how Windows sucks. I personally emailed Microsoft a similar question (only I wanted to do the reverse of what you are asking), and they said that the OS's kernel is written to be in that language. Basically, there's no way to change the system's display language. You can change the input language, for example, change your keyboard layout from a USA keyboard to a German one and vice versa. You can also program MS Office and whatever other Office programs you may have to accept German as the default language for the document. However, based on what Microsoft's Technical Support people told me, the only way to change the system's main language is to buy a new OS. In your case, it would mean dishing out another $100 (or euro, whatever you use) just to get your OS to display in English.

First you need to buy the Windows Vista install disc. Them back up your files just to be sure. Insert the disc and click install. Choose the version of Vista you have a product key for. Follow the instructions. When you get to a choose you installation, choose Upgrade. How do i change from windows xp to windows vista?
You need a computer that will support Vista and you need a Vista installation disk.
Well, if you want both operating system, go and buy Vista and install it on ur PC on a different partition than XP, and then get VISTAbootpro 3 in order to be able to boot into either one at startup.

Or, if u only want Vista, just go buy it and install it over XP (format the drive)

OR, if u want XP to look and feel like Vista, you can get WindowBlinds 6, or Vista Transformation Pack.
i think u have to buy a computer that already has vista
The easiest way is to wait until you need to replace your computer, and buy one with vista on it. It's cheaper that way and someone else will have made sure everything works with vista.

Failing that, when you put a vista disk in the drive it will tell you what to do. You have a choice of installing vista over xp - so you don't lose any files or settings - or installing vista from scratch, which means backing up your files and putting them back afterwards. It takes a few hours but you don't have to watch it.

I've just upgraded an xp desktop to vista - I had to replace the network card and the graphics and sound only worked after I upgraded to new drivers. I'm still having problems with the network, but other than that it's working fine.
Its quite simple. I didn't use any transformation packs, but I spent my time finding effects, ect. . I ended up with good results, but if you don't want to waste time looking for that, there are plenty of transformation packs on google, but be careful! You could fry your computer trying to turn it to vista when it can't handle system specs. That's why I chose separate downloads to keep my PC running smooth
Buy the upgrade version for XP users, assuming you already have a valid license for XP. First follow the top link below to see if your computer will properly run Vista.

Then visit pricewatch to see who has the best deal.

I personally wouldn't change to Vista unless your job requires it. Vista will run slower than XP on the same hardware.
buy new computer,,,or buy vista software if your computer support,,like RAM, Memory n speed..
First make sure that you meet the hardware qualifications (link below)

From there, you can buy an upgrade version for under $100 on Amazon.com.

My advice, however -- and I speak as a Windows Vista user -- is to NOT do this. Unless you know for a fact that all of your sofware is compatable with Vista, you'll find yourself frustrated when many of your programs don't work on the new platform. Unless you're ready to invest in upgrades on all of your titles, I would hold off.

Vista itself is extremely buggy (the search function, for instance, is far inferior to windows XP. You can find files with XP in five seconds. The same file can't be found at ALL with Vista)...

Windows Vista is quite possibly the worst version that Microsoft has ever put out -- even surpassing Windows ME as the biggest piece of junk that ever came down the pike.

If I didn't know any better, I would swear it was put together by Apple in a ploy to get people to buy Macs instead -- and trust me, it's done just that to a lot of people.......

    boot it with the cd

    and follow the instructions
All you need to do is pop in the disc, and follow the directions. Make sure you have the security code for the disc first. Without this, it may block all access. If you have high speed internet connection when you put in the CD, you can even look for updates. But all you need is to put in the CD and follow the directions.

this would seem the answer to your issue. Is there a way to change the XP activation code?
You have to contact Microsoft, usually with activation errors it will give you a phone number to call in the error message. If it doesn't then your copy of XP is no longer considered valid, and you have to get a new copy.
Loading onto a second machine is likely to trigger a lockout, the activation site reads this as an attempt at setting up a pirate copy. You have de-activated your copy. Your only chance is to contact Microsoft by phone. Don't expect too much.
The only people who can really answer this question are Microsoft customer service people. Get in touch with them and tell them what's happened. they can release it for you, or help you get it legally reloaded and operating.

You can contact Customer Service by phone Monday through Friday, 8 A.M. to 10 P.M. (Eastern Time), at 1-888-218-5617.

You can install 3rd party software such as Style XP and Windows Blinds. Using these softwares, you can change the look of Windows XP(icons, boot screen, themes, etc). They are safe. Vista has been refined to where it operates without problems. If you are still having them, update your computer with the latest Vista update software. As for Office, go to http://www.openoffice.org for a full office suit that is comparable to Microsoft Office with all the same features and it is free. It can read and write Microsoft Office files too so you do not need to worry about that.

    Good luck.
I believe that one cannot go backwards from Vista to XP without formatting the hard disk, and installing XP from a cd.

Might be better to give XP a miss completely and purchase Win 7, although you will loose everything on your HD that you have not backed up.

Hei, the step by step solution is just retracing your earlier steps.

Right click on the desktop (no icons no nothing, right on the background)

    Select Properties.

    Go to Themes (first tab).

Select Windows XP. It should revert you to the initial Luna interface which is blue and ugly after me.

Is you saved your current theme you can go back to it instantly.

If you have a good computer that can deal with some graphic intensive RAM eating themes I would recomend Stardock's ';customizing'; applications. www.stardock.com

These are also free but the paid versions are lots better.

And of course you can always manage your appearance, like font size, window colors, and stuff like that from the Appearance tab.

    Enjoy your tinkering.

He should have re-installed XP Pro, assuming that it was pre-installed on your PC.

What he did was install a ';Pirated'; XP Home, illegally on your PC. And, that's why Paint Shop Pro Ultimate won't work, it knows XP Home is pirated.

    right click on the desktop and go to properties then go to the tab ';themes'; and choose the theme ';windows XP'; and go apply and then go OK and it should go back to XP. The setting it is on it is probably ';windows classic';

Then just change your background to what you want
Ok you have changed your theme to look like windows 98 but we can fix that...

    1. Go to your desktop and right click in a blank space, then click on properties.

    2. Select the Themes tab (It may already be chosen)

    3. Change the theme in the drop down box to Windows Xp and this will change your appearance back to the original state. It may take a while so be patient...

    4. Click on apply and press ok!

Now you're done......Hope this helps and get sto best answer!

Thanks AliHow Can I change Windows XP Chinese version to English?
The problem would be why it wont let you. Without you saying what is stopping you its going to be hard to help. Does it come back Chinese does it stall etc. If the computer is Chinese then its going to set everything to default Chinese so you will have to maybe replace it. Try changing the language options on the english version and see what happens

How do I change windows XP registered user and organisation?

I just bought a new PC without an operating system, I also bought a legitimate OEM copy of windows XP to install on it. It installed fine but didn't ask me for a user name or organisation name. Now if I check system properties in My Computer the 'registered to' fields are defaulted to 'Your User Name' and 'Your Organization Name'. How do I change these to match my personal details? ThanksHow do I change windows XP registered user and organisation?
I just answered this question for someone else the other day

Follow the instructions here carefully: http://www.wikihow.com/Change-the-Regist…

This procedure is also detailed in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, article 310441: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310441

Be very careful not to change anything else in the registry. If you don't know what you're doing you could seriously mess up your computer so make sure you follow the instructions closely.

The values that need to be changed are located in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersionHow do I change windows XP registered user and organisation?
Go into the registry and search for ';your user name'; etc and replace them with your info.

    Start| Run | regedit
    Changing Operating System Admin.Name

You need to make changes in a couple places. Start first with the registration. This requires editing the Registry. Before you do that, back it up. To do that, click Start and then Run. In the Run box type, ‘regedit” without the quotes and then click ok. This will open the Registry Editor. Now click “File” and then “Export”. Export the Registry to your Desktop. If you make an error while editing the Registry you can click “Import”. Navigate to the copy of the Registry that you saved and click “Ok”.

    Next.

In the Registry Editor, scroll down and open the following:

HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\ by clicking the little + signs. Next scroll down to “Current Version and click on the folder so that it opens in the “Right Pane”.

    - -

In the right pane, double-click Registered Organization. In the

box under Value Data, change the name or leave it blank. Next, Double- click

Registered Owner. Change the name to your own. Close the Registry Editor.

Now you have to change the user account. To do that, click Start%26gt; Control Panel. Double-click User Accounts. When the User Accounts

window opens, find ';pick an account to change.'; Click the one that

has the old name. On the next window, click ';Change my name.'; Enter your name and click Change Name.

On the same window where you clicked ';Change my name,'; you also can

add a password or change your picture. To add a password, click ';Create password.'; Enter your password twice and click Create Password.

To change the picture, click ';Change my picture.'; This will take you

to a window with a selection of 24 pictures. To use one, click it and click Change Picture.

    You can also add your own picture. Click ';Browse for more pictures.';

You can use any picture you have on your hard drive. It should be saved as a JPEG--such as Filename.jpg. Click the picture file and click Open.

You may also change the user name and Org. by clicking the following:

Start, control panel, system, computer name. now change the name and org. there.

    enjoy your computer.

Control Panel %26gt; Search for 'Name' %26gt; select the one that says PC Name or Computer Name and go ahead and change it.

Im fed up of vista, my comp just cant handle it. Where and how can i change to Windows XP?

My computer is windows vista and every 15 minutes it says not responding when a program like firefox, int.explorer, msn or skype is running. It freezes the whole computer. Vista is so resource hungry and i dont even use that many programs this comp. How can i change to XP?Im fed up of vista, my comp just cant handle it. Where and how can i change to Windows XP?
Vista was overated when it came out with many problems. Windows 7 is the newest OS. I don't know if you can change back from Vista to XP.Im fed up of vista, my comp just cant handle it. Where and how can i change to Windows XP?
I really don't know what you are whining about for I have Vista Home Basic with Norton Internet Security 2010 and the browser is IE8

when I start my computer it is up and running within about 30 seconds which is nice and fast,

what I did to make it fast was to choose vista home basic as the operating system without the new ';Aero Desktop'; saving on the memory and install it replacing the pre-installed version.

this gets rid of all the trial programs that you get on the computer when you buy it which in turn runs in the background just waiting for you to use it and saving on disk space.

i have a 10MB broadband speed and a computer with 2GB of memmory pre-installed which makes this computer very fast.

just remember if you do decide on installing vista home basic like I have done you wont get any other programs with vista just the operating system and windows defender,

any other programs can be added later like windows open office 2007 or the free version from http://www.openoffice.org

and don't forget a internet security package for your computer,

the all in one suites are better then 3 or 4 different programs.
Instead of XP, I recommend trying out Linux, its much faster, more secure, and easy to use.

    http://ubuntu.com/

There are a number of ways to install it. You can burn it to cd ( http://imgburn.com/ ) and then boot it live and install it. If you cant figure that out you can use http://wubi-installer.org/ or http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
Are you sure you do not have a virus? I know vista for anyone with less

than 4gb's of ram is an issue but the symptoms you wrote is also a classic symptom of being infected. Good luck with your comp!!
