How do I change my Windows XP/Office XP licenses without reformatting?

My church had loaned out a copy of Windows and Office to me but now they need those licenses back. How can I ';release'; the current licenses and purchase new ones without reformatting? How do I change my Windows XP/Office XP licenses without reformatting?
you can't return a licence, just return the cd to your church, if you want to buy a new licensed cd and re install xp, but back up your old version and don't do a clean install, just take the repair option. How do I change my Windows XP/Office XP licenses without reformatting?
Warning: The following answer involves editing the system registry. Do not do this unless you know what you are ding. Back up your registry first, then perform the following:

Open Start, Run, and type in regedit. Then go to HKey Local Machine / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows / Current Version. Click on Current Version in the left pane. In the right pane, look for the key that says ';ProductId'; Double click ';ProductId'; and type in the license number of the new one that you bought.

Office will be a bit trickier - depends on what version you have. Here is the Microsoft article on how to do that:

maybe give a try to installation themes....the one who gave answer by using regedit also helps but if u miss a single part..your system would crash....you can also try tune up utilities 2009...select theme using tune up and click to apply it....

How do I change Vista to XP?

My new laptop is Vista but I'm finding it an absolute pain trying to load programs that I have on my XP onto it - some offer an upgrade but others just do not work.

As a result I have decided that life would be easier if I changed the laptop Vista to run XP. Both computers came with OEM and I do have the re-installation discs. What is the easiest and simplest way of making the change? How do I change Vista to XP?
Ask someone in yahoo answers to give you a product key for XP then go to the start menu, right click on Computer, scroll down, and click change product key then type the code and there you go.

How do I change Vista to XP?
the easiest way to go from vista to xp is to reformat. Other ways would include reverting back to your old system if you saved xp that way. However, you will find that this can become complicated. And by the way, you are not the first.
Vistas not that bad but should come with a special program that change the OS to a previous version. You'll have to do a bit of digging I'm pretty sure its in there though.
I believe this is correct but hope someone else can confirm or dispute it. The answer depends on whether you have ';recovery'; disks or full installation disks.

If you only have recovery disks, you cannot install XP on the Vista machine and vice versa. When both XP and Vista are installed on a computer, they coordinate with that computer and cannot be moved to a different machine. To re-install either op system, you must use the recovery disks that came with the machine. So, I don't think you can change your Vista machine to XP using the disks you have on hand.

However, if you have full install disks for either op system, you should be able to install that op system on either machine. You may have a little trouble with Windows Genuine Advantage programs, but they can be bypassed rather easily.

If anyone can add to this (or correct it), please do so. I'm anxious to hear the whole story too.
Install software is almost always proprietary to the manufacturer and model number of the computer it came with. Software for an HP1015 will not work on an HP 1212 for example.

you can't just take the install disks from one computer and load them onto another computer. I believe that you would need to purchase clean install Windows XP software.

How can you change windows xp...?

... so that the toolbar is a different colour from olive or blue or silver? ---i suppose you have to download it..am i right? How can you change windows xp...?
To everyone that suggested changing the color via Display settings, the poster asked for something OTHER then Silver, Olive, or Blue. Those are the only three choices in Windows XP.

To the folks who recommended programs like Windowblinds (stardock.com) and others, that's the way to go. Windowblinds is free and you can do very cool things with it. Here are thousands of examples: http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?l

On an unused part of the desktop, right click and select properties.

Go to the appearance tab and select another option OR click advanced and select any colour that Windows can produce.

How to make a batch file to change a win XP registry value?

hey people, i wanted to know how we can edit the windows XP registry through command prompt and can a batch file be created for the same? How to make a batch file to change a win XP registry value?
Yes, and you don't actually have to create a .reg file to edit the registry as cmd has a command especially for that. The command is 'reg', type 'reg /?' for more info on it.

Examples:

reg add HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentV?/v EXAMPLE /t REG_SZ /d ';C:\Program Files\examplefolder\examplefile.bat';

This command would add a string value to the registry path 'HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current?(which, by the way, is the registry folder which runs stuff at startup), the value would be named 'EXAMPLE' and it's value would be ';C:\Program Files\examplefolder\examplefile.bat';. This means that after executing this command, a file called examplefile.bat would start every time I boot up my computer.

This can be used to change, add, delete, and do a plethora of other things to do registry. A word of warning though, changing anything in the registry could have dire consequences, use with caution :PHow to make a batch file to change a win XP registry value?
Yes, it can be done. Your batch file should:

1) Create a '.reg' file containing instructions to regedit to tell it what to do.

2) Run regedit on the '.reg' file.

3) Remove the '.reg' file.

See the link below which explains the theory and provides a few examples.
