You can't change it unless you reformat your hard drive and reinstall your O/S.

You have tried to update from Microsoft that's why it detected your system that it is a counterfeit. How to change the desktop background in windows XP?
First you need to find out why this message about software counterfeting is being displayed. If you think it shouldn't be, you need to contact Microsoft. If you are using a stolen copy of Windows then you really shouldn't be bragging about it here.
- buy a legal copy of windows xp

- reformat and reinstall windows

- call microsoft customer serviceso they can send a person over to your house and repair the problem. i am sure, you would not mind esp if your copy is indeed legal.

- activate your windows by calling the toll free number, and connecting to the internet
Just right-click your desktop and click Properties. Change your back ground from there.
Your computer could be slow and not be able to load that colours and the message could be because your computer is slow because you have a virus and you need to virus protecting software. I would reload all your software and then try changing your background. Hope i helped.
This is because you are using a pirated Win XP. This error come up when your system has installed the automatic updates from Microsoft.

If you wanna use the same pirated XP then you will have to format the system and reinstall the Windows again. Then Turn of the automatic updates by going into control panel =%26gt; Automatic updates =%26gt; Turn off.

so that in future you will not have this problem.
